Delawares internet gambling business had a strong start to 2019, with earnings growing by nearly 60% compared to the same period last year. This was primarily due to the success of Dover Downs.
Delawares online gambling performance in January was robust. The Delaware Lottery’s online gambling operations had a great start to 2019, with earnings increasing by almost 60% compared to the same period last year.
Earnings reached nearly $280,000, a significant increase from January 2018 and also an 11% increase from December of that year, even though the amount of money wagered was actually declining.
In January 2019, players wagered a total of $7.4 million at the state’s three licensed online gambling websites, a 65% increase from the same period last year, but a 28% decrease from the $10.3 million wagered in December 2018. Players won a total of $7.2 million during the month.
Video lottery accounted for 68% of the month’s total earnings, followed by table games, which contributed about $67,000. Poker rake and fees, on the other hand, contributed only about $22,000.
January also saw a significant increase in the number of new players, up 117% to 578.
Dover Downs was the biggest contributor to the earnings, with its revenue more than doubling from $48,000 in the previous year to $140,000, with 233 players registering to play games during the month.
Although revenue experienced a 28.8% decrease from the previous year, reaching $74,643.07, Delaware Parks witnessed an upswing in income that counteracted the downturn.
Concurrently, Harrington observed a substantial revenue boost in 2018, climbing from $24,020.36 to $65,081.65, although this represented a 3.5% dip from the preceding year.
