The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has issued a directive to block access to six additional offshore gambling and affiliate marketing websites.
The ACMA has concluded that Golden Crown Casino, Sol Casino, PowBet, ExciteWin, Sportaza, and Gamble Online are in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act of 2001 by providing services to Australian players. Consequently, the ACMA has requested that Australian internet service providers (ISPs) restrict access to each website. Since the ACMA initially submitted a blocking request in November 2019, the nation has blocked 447 unlawful gambling websites. Moreover, since the ACMA commenced enforcing new regulations against illegal offshore gambling in 2017, an additional 160 illicit services, including operators and affiliate businesses, have withdrawn from the Australian market. The ACMA declared, “Website blocking presents a valuable opportunity to raise awareness regarding illegal gambling services through messages that appear when individuals attempt to access the sites.” “The ACMA reminds consumers that even if a service seems legitimate, it is improbable that it will have substantial customer protection measures in place. This implies that Australians utilizing illegal gambling services are at risk of financial losses.”
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) this week revealed it had initiated legal proceedings against three entities for unlawful online betting. The regulatory body has subsequently issued blocking directives.
All three cases pertain to the provision of forbidden online wagering services through “PPPfish,” which was later rebranded as “Shuffle Gaming” and then “Redraw Poker.”
Rhys Edward Jones is accused of having provided these forbidden online betting services to Australians between March 2020 and March 2021, while Diverse Link Pty has been offering them since March 2021.
The ACMA also asserts that Brenton Lee Buttigieg was involved in promoting and recommending these services to clients.
