Entain has been given several new online gaming permits in Germany, including the nation’s first two internet poker permits.
The Saxony-Anhalt State Administrative Office granted Entain five licenses, two of which allow Entain to run online poker through its Bwin and Ladbrokes brands.
The remaining three licenses will empower Bwin and Ladbrokes, as well as Sportingbet, to provide online wagering services across the country.
All five new permits are valid for five years and supplement Entain’s existing licenses in Germany, which permit it to offer online sports betting under each brand.
Robert Hoskin, Entain’s Chief Governance Officer, stated: “We are thrilled to now be authorized for our betting and poker services in the regulated German market, which will enable us to provide and sell these services to our clientele.”
“This is a significant and welcome step toward achieving a fully regulated online betting and gaming market in Germany. Only through such regulation and its enforcement can we prevent customers from entering the illicit market, where there are no protections like those provided by reputable operators like Entain.”
After the German state-owned casino, Sachsen State Casino, became the first government-run gambling operator to acquire an online slot license earlier this month, another license has been issued.
The operator, which has exclusive rights to the land-based casino industry in Saxony, will provide online slot games to German players through the Sachsenlotto.de website.
